During my two years with the Innocence Institute, I handled day-to-day operations, reviewed incarcerated individuals\u2019 claims of innocence, and interviewed witnesses, incarcerated people and attorneys. I implemented, updated, and consolidated the Amicus computer database for the cases and migrated data to a new website that I maintained and updated. My duties included attending trials, reviewing transcripts and writing about my findings. I supervised the undergrad and grad students and edited their copy, photos, and video. He critiqued our responses and provided techniques to accommodate the media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\"><strong>SERVICE <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Student Publications Board<\/em><\/strong>. <strong>Fall 2018<\/strong><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><strong>\u2014present. CHAIR.<\/strong>\u00a0UNC Pembroke. The Student Publications Board serves as the selection committee for the newspaper, yearbook, and literary magazine editors, acts as the arbitrator if censorship pressures arise and develops other roles that the Board deems proper. However, the Board does not<\/span>\u00a0attempt to provide active oversight of the day-to-day workings of student publications.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Pine Needle Student Newspaper Adviser<\/em>.<\/strong> <strong>2018 to present<\/strong>. I work with students year-round, as well as on evenings and weekends, to produce news content for online and print publications. I teach skills in news production, including print layouts in InDesign (text wrap, content placement, cropping, straightening, and adjusting image exposure in Photoshop). I instruct in how to use the WordPress website to present the articles and images. Create job postings and contracts and interview applicants for positions including reporters, photographers and editors. Created a manual for students to use in class and during the production process. Each year I created handouts for writing and InDesign tutorials and instruct on techniques. \u00a0In 2024, I wrote and made a print and flipbook manual for the student news. Team-building events. PR events, promotions and community interactions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"d-flex align-items-sm-center align-items-start mt-8 mb-16 flex-column flex-sm-row\">\n<p id=\"page-title\" class=\"h2\"><em><strong>Student Affairs &amp; Campus Life Committee. 2025- Present.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Faculty Grievance Committee. 2026-present. <\/strong><\/em>The committee hears grievances from faculty members, facilitates voluntary adjustment, and advises the faculty member on adjustment when appropriate. Grievances refer to a faculty member&#8217;s employment (except in matters related to suspension, discharge, or termination) and\/or relationships within the institution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Faculty Awards Committee<\/em><\/strong>. <strong>2023- 25. <\/strong>The Faculty Awards Committee regularly reviews the criteria, guidelines, and procedures for nomination and selection relating to all faculty awards and recommends changes to the Faculty Senate. The Committee publicizes the availability of the awards. The Committee receives nominations and votes to select recipients of the following awards, using criteria, guidelines and procedures defined by the donors and by the Faculty Senate: UNC Board of Governors&#8217; Award for Excellence in Teaching; UNC Board of Governors&#8217; Award for Excellence in Public Service; UNCP Outstanding Teaching Awards; Faculty Emeritus; UNCP\u00a0Outstanding Teaching Award for Part-time Faculty; and the Adolph L. Dial Endowed Faculty Awards for Scholarship\/Creative Work and for Community Service.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Academic Information Technology Committee<\/em>. <\/strong>2023 \u2013 2024. The Academic Information Technology Committee is a standing committee of the Faculty Senate. The committee represents faculty interests in all matters relating to information technology. It acts as the service owner for technology services and information technology policy, primarily focusing on pedagogy, faculty research, and service. The committee will make recommendations to the Faculty Senate regarding the implementation, governance, or changes to these technology services. The Committee will recommend and engage in faculty-centered activities to adopt key academic technologies. The Committee will advise the CIO and the Senate on new technology initiatives. It will evaluate and make recommendations concerning academic computing and information policies, standards, and procedures proposed or implemented by university technology services, DoIT.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>UNCP Mass Communication Student Scholarship Reviewer<\/em>, 2020-Present<\/strong>. Individual students receive awards for their journalism each year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Reviewer for International Journal of Communication. 2022.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>The<\/em>\u00a0<em>University of Southern California, Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, Los Angeles, Ca. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Title IX Advisor Training in the Sexual Harassment Resolution Process.<\/em><\/strong> <strong>2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This training is an essential aspect of investigating and adjudicating sexual harassment allegations.\u00a0\u00a0The university must provide fairness and due process to all parties involved in a sexual harassment case. The 2020 Title IX Regulations mandate that the Complainant and the Respondent have an Advisor of their choosing at their hearing.\u00a0\u00a0The university\u2019s Sexual Harassment Policy and Regulation go further and allow the parties to have an Advisor throughout the resolution process.\u00a0\u00a0May 2021.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Society of Professional Journalists \u201cMark of Excellence Awards.\u201d 2024.<\/em><\/strong> Attended and mentored the Pine Needle Editor-in-Chief and Managing editor at the Region 2 awards ceremony at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
